Cooking Method for Wada Kolam Rice
Rinse
Rinse the rice thoroughly in clean running water till the rice is free from residue.
Boil
Add 1 cup of cleaned Wada Kolam rice to 2 parts of water. If you are cooking Wada Kolam rice 10 kg, take the measurements of water according to this proportion and cook it in a cooker.
Cooking
Close the lid of the cooker and cook for 10 to 15 minutes under medium flame and leave it to cook until you hear 2 whistles.
Fluff
Once the rice is cooked, let it rest until the steam evaporates and slowly open the lid and fluff the rice for uniform texture and softness.
Cooking Tips for Wada Kolam Rice
- The water-to-rice ratio may vary slightly depending on the specific rice cooker or pan cooking method. Start with a 1:2 ratio of rice to water respectively and adjust as needed.
- Ensure not to overcook as it can make the rice sticky. Cook until the rice is tender yet firm, which you can check by gently squeezing a grain.
- Fluffing the rice can help separate the grains and prevent them from becoming sticky or by clumping.
- Do not use this rice to cook Biryani as it is not ideal for this dish due to its short nature of grains, while the Basmati rice used for biryani is long and slender.
